Six Meaningful Ways to Support Northwood This Holiday Season

The holidays are a time to come together, spread kindness, and make sure everyone in our community feels remembered. If you’re looking for a way to give back this season, Northwood Foundation has six simple and meaningful opportunities to brighten someone’s day.


Here’s how you can help our residents and clients Live More this holiday season:

1. Give a Gift through the Giving Tree

Our annual Giving Tree is back—and easier to participate in than ever.


You can:

  • Pick a tag from a Giving Tree at any Northwood location (Halifax, Bedford, Dartmouth), purchase the item, and drop it off unwrapped.

  • Make a monetary donation onsite or online.

  • Explore our brand-new Online Holiday Wishbook and send gifts directly to residents: https://trellis.org/northwood-wishbook


Popular gift ideas include lotions, socks, slippers, jewellery, stuffed animals, treats, craft supplies, calendars, and activity books.

2. Mail a Greeting Card through the Holiday Card Campaign

A handwritten card can make an enormous impact for someone who may not receive many visitors. Each year, individuals, classrooms, and businesses write thousands of warm messages for the people we support.


How to participate:

  • Purchase or make holiday cards and include a heartfelt message.

  • Add a small gift if you’d like—chocolates, puzzle books, and hand lotions are common favourites.

  • Drop off cards at Northwood or partner locations (details shared on our website and social channels).


Your words help combat isolation, lift spirits, and remind residents that their community cares.


For more than 12 years, our friends at Jack 92.9 have stood beside Northwood as proud partners of our Holiday Card Campaign—a heartfelt tradition that brings handwritten cards and messages of love to seniors in our community. Each year, Jack 92.9 helps rally schools, businesses, families, and neighbours to write thousands of cards that brighten spirits and remind residents they are not forgotten.


We are deeply grateful for their incredible commitment, creativity, and kindness that continues to make the holidays a little warmer for everyone at Northwood.

3. Support Our Holiday 50/50 Raffle

Our Holiday 50/50 is a festive way to give back—plus, you could take home half the jackpot.


Every ticket helps fund programs and comforts that bring connection, dignity, and joy to Northwood residents and clients.

4. Give a Gift through The Dignity Rack

The Dignity Rack helps ensure everyone we support has access to essential items that bring comfort and dignity.


To participate, simply:

  • Visit Mountain Warehouse at either the Halifax or Dartmouth location.

  • Choose an item from the in-store Dignity Rack and add it to your purchase.

  • The Mountain Warehouse elves will make sure your gift reaches a Northwood resident in need before the holidays.


It’s a small act with a big impact.

5. Support Northwood by Visiting Freeman’s on Quinpool

This holiday season, Freeman’s New York on Quinpool Road is helping spread joy to Northwood residents.


When you visit the Quinpool location before January 1, 2026:

  • Purchase a snowflake to support a Northwood resident.

  • Enjoy a delicious dessert—$2 from every dessert sold is donated.

  • Buy a $50 gift card, and $5 will be donated to Northwood Foundation.


It’s a simple (and delicious) way to give back while supporting a local business that supports our community.
