Clarissa Simpson, LPN - Making a Difference Every Day

After spending 10 years working on a busy medical unit in Ontario, Clarissa Simpson returned to Nova Scotia looking for a new challenge. She found it at Northwood.
As an LPN, Clarissa's days include medication administration, treatments, blood collection, physician rounds, care conferences and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Every shift is focused on ensuring residents receive safe, high-quality care.
What she values most, however, is the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with residents and their families.
"Long-term care is about much more than administering medications and performing dressing changes," she says. "It's about building meaningful relationships while providing compassionate, person-centred care."
By getting to know residents personally, Clarissa is able to better understand their needs, preferences and goals. She also helps residents and families navigate important care decisions and provides support during difficult times.
Ten years later, Clarissa continues to find the work rewarding.
Northwood's commitment to professional development has also helped her grow throughout her career. She has participated in training and education sessions covering topics such as wound care, IV therapy and compression therapy, helping her expand her clinical knowledge and skills.
For nurses considering a career in long-term care, Clarissa describes Northwood as a supportive workplace where teamwork is valued and colleagues are always willing to help.
“I live more because of my family and enjoy the work that I do.ˮ
Clarissa's story is just one example of the difference you can make at Northwood. Whether you’re beginning your career, looking to grow your skills or ready for a new opportunity, there are many ways to build a meaningful career while making a difference in the lives of others.
