Something truly remarkable is happening within our Northwood community this holiday season, a movement of kindness that stretches far beyond our walls.
Every year, our Holiday Card Campaign invites people to send handwritten cards filled with messages of hope, comfort, and joy to residents who may be spending the season without family nearby. What began as a simple idea has grown into a beautiful tradition that connects generations, communities, and hearts.
This year, we were touched by a special story from one of our residents, a proud great-great-grandparent who shared that his young relative in Winnipeg, Manitoba wanted to help spread cheer. Not only did he say yes to making cards himself, but he asked his entire school class to join him. Now, more classrooms of children, hundreds of miles away, are busy drawing bright colours, writing cheerful notes, and sending love to seniors they have never met, but already care for deeply.
These cards will soon arrive at Northwood, filling hands and hearts with warmth and reminding our residents that they are seen, valued, and remembered.
It is proof that a small act can create a ripple that reaches across the country, inspiring others and reminding us that kindness knows no age, no distance, and no boundaries.
From one classroom in Manitoba to hallways here in Nova Scotia, joy is being passed from one generation to another, reminding us that community is built through love and connection.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support this meaningful tradition. Together, we are proving that the magic of the holidays lives in the simplest gestures
