Music Across Generations at Northwood Bedford

ree

At Northwood in Bedford, a special harmony is found in the laughter, movement, and music shared between seniors and young children. Though they might seem like unlikely classmates, their music sessions which started just last month—led by the owner of Joyful Sounds, Louise MacDonald—are proof that joy knows no age.

Recently CBC's Jane Sponagle captured Louise bringing together children, residents, and community members for a lively intergenerational music event filled with singing, rhythm, and connection. The room came alive with the sounds of shakers and laughter, creating moments that were as heartwarming as they were memorable.

These gatherings do more than entertain—they nurture understanding, empathy, and belonging. For the children, it’s a chance to learn from older generations and see aging through a joyful, human lens. For our residents, it’s a reminder that the energy and curiosity of youth can brighten any day.

At Northwood, we believe that community is built through connection—and sometimes, all it takes is a song to bring us closer together.
