Extended Care Paramedics Bring Holiday Cheer to Northwood

The holidays can be a joyful time, but for many people living in long-term care, the season can also be quiet and isolating. Thanks to the Extended Care Paramedics from Emergency Health Services (EHS), kindness and connection was in abundance today!

Members of the Extended Care Paramedics team visited Northwood’s Halifax campus to deliver thoughtfully prepared holiday stocking gifts. Wearing their gear and carrying armfuls of stockings, the team brought smiles, conversation, and a genuine sense of care to our community. The warmth in the room was unmistakable — laughter, gratitude, and moments of shared joy filled the day.

Extended Care Paramedics are specially trained to support frail, vulnerable, and marginalized individuals, often meeting people during some of their most challenging moments. Their holiday stocking initiative grew from a simple but powerful understanding: many seniors living in long-term care no longer have family or visitors during the holidays. Loved ones may live far away, or may no longer be with them. This initiative ensures that no one is forgotten.

Each stocking represented more than a gift. It was a reminder that someone took the time to think of them, to show up, and to care. For our community, that message matters deeply.

We are incredibly grateful to the Extended Care Paramedics and Emergency Medical Care (EMC) for continuing this tradition of compassion and connection. Their generosity reflects the very best of what community looks like, especially during the holiday season.
