Today we celebrate something truly special, the people who remind us of what excellence looks like in action. Those who see a better way, care enough to make it happen, and lift others along the way.

Congratulations to this year’s Safety and Quality Award recipients:

Northwood Campus:

Quality Improvement Award: Danielle Dyke

Safety Excellence Award: Nina Logan

Their leadership and diligence have had a significant impact on maintaining a safe environment for both tenants and staff. They consistently uphold infection control standards, including hand hygiene, PPE use, and enhanced cleaning protocols during outbreak precautions. They proactively identify and report safety hazards, ensuring quick resolution, and they actively support emergency preparedness by leading fire drills and calmly guiding others through safety procedures. These efforts reinforce confidence among tenants and staff while reducing risk in daily operations.

Beyond adherence to protocols, they have introduced proactive measures that have strengthened safety across Retirement Living. Notably, they developed a medication tracking checklist to ensure accuracy and timeliness in medication delivery reducing the risk of missed doses or errors. They regularly raise awareness through safety reminders during team huddles, encourage open communication about risks, and educate both staff and tenants on preventive practices such as fall prevention and equipment use. Through this thoughtful and proactive approach, they have fostered a strong culture of vigilance, responsibility, and continuous improvement.

Shoreham Campus:

Quality Improvement Award: Kim Croft

Safety Excellence Award: Gaye Ernst

Their leadership has had a meaningful and measurable impact at Shoreham Village. They recognized and resolved delays in receiving lab results by implementing a new confidential fax process, ensuring our nurse practitioner and care teams could act quickly to provide timely treatment. They have been instrumental in advancing the UTI Surveillance work, trialing new tools to track infections and antibiotic use, while ensuring these improvements are supported with clear policies, procedures, and staff engagement. They have also strengthened safety and infection prevention by creating dedicated PPE and vaccination carts, leading risk meetings, and supporting the introduction of Team Lavender at Shoreham. Through these efforts, they have consistently demonstrated a thoughtful and proactive approach to quality improvement that has enhanced both resident care and staff support.

"Each of these individuals represents the best of who we are, leading with compassion, courage, and an unwavering commitment to those we serve. Their work reminds us that quality and safety are not just goals; they are acts of love, of purpose, and of deep respect for the people who call Northwood home.

To Danielle, Nina, Kim, and Gaye, thank you for setting the bar high and for showing us that when we care deeply about what we do, excellence follows."

- Charbel Daniel, President and CEO of Northwood
