Shoreham Village in Chester is proud to share that construction is now underway for our new, modern long-term care facility—purposefully designed to support the health, dignity, and well-being of those we serve. This milestone is the result of listening closely to our residents and their families, collaborating with the Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care, and engaging deeply with our community. Together, we envisioned a space where people feel at home, cared for, and connected.
The new 96-bed facility will offer brighter, more spacious rooms, beautifully landscaped outdoor areas, in-floor heating, and advanced heating and cooling systems. These upgrades not only enhance comfort but also support energy efficiency and modern infection control, creating a safer and more welcoming environment for both residents and staff.
Designed in accordance with the Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care’s standards and made possible through their funding support, the new stand-along building represents a shared commitment to compassionate, forward-thinking care.
“This is an important milestone in building this new long-term care home in Chester. We are committed to ensuring seniors can count on getting the care they need, when they need it. This new home will help ensure this and also provide a modern workplace for Shoreham's dedicated staff. The spaces in this new home are part of the 5,700 long-term care spaces we are building and replacing across Nova Scotia over the coming years,” said Barbara Adams, Minister of Seniors and Long-Term Care.”
The new stand-along building replaces the existing facility, and is designed in strict accordance with guidelines provided by the SLTC.
“What an exciting day for Chester! Shoreham Village is a valuable part of our community, and I’m thrilled to see work start on the construction of this new home. When it opens, it will increase the number of long-term care spaces in this area, ensuring more seniors in our community get the care they need for many years to come. Congratulations to the whole Shoreham team,” said Danielle Barkhouse, MLA for Chester-St. Margarets.
“Buildings may house care, but it’s people who bring it to life. This new facility is more than bricks and mortar; it’s a promise to our seniors that they matter, that they are seen, and that they will be surrounded by kindness and respect every day.” Says Charbel Daniel, CEO of Shoreham. “We are honoured to take this step forward, and we thank our partners, staff, and community for believing in a better future for long-term care.”
