Spotlighting Northwood’s Continuing Care Workers

October marks Continuing Care Month, an opportunity to recognize the vital contributions of those who provide care, comfort, and support each day. At Northwood, Continuing Care Workers play an essential role in ensuring the well-being of our residents and clients.

Throughout this month, we will highlight members of our team through a series of spotlights, sharing their experiences, interests, and reflections on what they value most about their work. These stories provide a window into the dedication and professionalism that define continuing care at Northwood.

Rhonda Smith

How long have you worked at Northwood? I've worked at Northwood for almost 32 years !!

What is your current position? I've been in the same position for the last 32 years as a Program Worker/CCA at the Adult Day Program !!

What hobbies or interests do you have outside of work? My interests outside of work are: spending time with my family especially my grandchildren, traveling out west, Alberta, to visit my Son and going shopping with my sister !!

What do you enjoy most about coming to work each day? I look forward each day in coming to work and making a difference in the lives of the clients that I work with. Seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter is what

makes my day worthwhile !! It's so rewarding ...

Renee Trempe

How long have you worked at Northwood? 2 years.

What is your current position? CCA.

What hobbies or interests do you have outside of work? I enjoy going out for walks, swimming and generally like being outside when it's nice. Love spending time with my kids. We have a general love of music in our house, and often will find me listening to something.

What do you enjoy most about coming to work each day? The thing I love most about this job is feeling like I've helped someone and maybe made their day just a little better by just giving the aid, to my best ability.

Rebecca Boucher

How long have you worked at Northwood? I have worked at Northwood since March 2017.

What is your current position? My current position is the Program Planner for the Northwood Adult Day Program in Dartmouth.

What hobbies or interests do you have outside of work?

Outside of work I am a busy mom of two toddlers.

What do you enjoy most about coming to work each day?

Coming to work every day, I enjoy the team I get to work with, and enriching the daily lives of the clients that we serve, as well as providing respite to client caregivers. Being able to allow them some time for self care and rest is so important!

Nikki Fillier

How long have you worked at Northwood? I have been since Northwood since July 2014.

What is your current position? CCA home care.

What hobbies or interests do you have outside of work? Outside of work I enjoy spending time with family, my dog (chocolate lab) Huxley, hiking, walking the beach any season of the year, exploring new places, just being outdoors in general.

What do you enjoy most about coming to work each day? What I enjoy most about coming to work each day is knowing that my presence is of great significance to the clients I care for. Hearing all of the stories the clients have to share, and learning so much from each and every one of them. Home Care has been a great field to work in, I’ve learned a lot about myself these past 11 years. We don’t often have the opportunity to work directly with our co-workers, however when the opportunity arises, I have enjoyed

getting to know some of them as more than a name on a communication tool. Last but not least, just knowing that the care I provide will help my clients maintain some independence and stay in their own homes a bit longer is sufficient.
