Spotlighting Northwood’s Continuing Care Workers

October marks Continuing Care Month, an opportunity to recognize the vital contributions of those who provide care, comfort, and support each day. At Northwood, Continuing Care Workers play an essential role in ensuring the well-being of our residents and clients.

Throughout this month, we will highlight members of our team through a series of spotlights, sharing their experiences, interests, and reflections on what they value most about their work. These stories provide a window into the dedication and professionalism that define continuing care at Northwood.

Lora Moriarty

How long have you worked at Northwood? I've been with Northwood for 10 years.

What is your current position? My position is all CCA home care part time.

What hobbies or interests do you have outside of work? My hobby outside of work would be spending time with my family, my son and my grandchildren attending football games, soccer games, basketball, and rugby. Another huge interest that I have is helping our addiction community. One of my biggest interests would be to open a sober living house.

What do you enjoy most about coming to work each day? Coming to work every day has been such a joy for the last 10 years, starting with our management team always supporting both our clients and us, the employees. We have some of the most thankful and appreciative clients in HRM. Makes it so easy to wake up every day and make a difference in someone's life.

Catherine Simmonds

How long have you worked at Northwood? 26 years.

What is your current position? CCA (Continuing Care Assistant).

What hobbies or interests do you have outside of work? I love to knit, crochet and painting.

What do you enjoy most about coming to work each day? Seeing residents happy and not sick, they are also happy to see me and want to come home with me. I am happy where I am and this is my home. We have good teamwork up here and I enjoy every day coming to work. I want to be here at Northwood when I need help at the time of that age in my life.

Tracey Hawthorne

How long have you worked at Northwood? I've worked at Northwood for 20 plus years.

What is your current position? Current position is Program Planner, Halifax Campus.

What hobbies or interests do you have outside of work?

I like supporting my children in sports and taking my dogs for walks, love being outside. I like shopping and enjoy gardening and art.

What do you enjoy most about coming to work each day?

My job is meaningful because I engage with families and clients in the community and provide supports and resources that help them thrive at home and be a part of their community.

Michelle Keeping

How long have you worked at Northwood? I started working in Halifax June 13, 2002.

What is your current position? I'm a CCA / program worker.

What hobbies or interests do you have outside of work? I love spending time with family, crafts, gardening, travel, rock hounding, and cooking.

What do you enjoy most about coming to work each day? I enjoy meeting new clients and seeing them, getting to know them, being a part of a team of great people, learning new things, creating new things... keeps my mind sharp too. This position also helps allow me to spend more time with my family.
