The Northwood News (NWN) has a new face and a new format starting today. The print newspaper is still going, in fact we plan to print more often and increase the volume and diversity of articles in it, but parallel to that we are embracing the reality of our times and making the News fully digital as well.
From now on, you can read the NWN online from any internet connected device, allowing you to stay up to date on the latest news concerning the Northwood community, browse the latest or older archived community and lifestyle articles, and access links to useful resources concerning ageing, senior care, careers in continuing care, innovations in systems and technologies for seniors and links to external support from government.
The NWN has been a part of the Northwood community for a very long time. Starting out as a simple newsletter and then evolving into the Live More magazine, Northwood has been publishing in some form for decades. Our residents, clients and staff have grown to depend on it, not just to stay abreast of what’s going on among the many branches of the Northwood organization, but also because it highlights the many people that live and work among us.
Many companies speak about their community and refer to themselves as a family, but Northwood has existed as a deeply-knit community as its foundational principal since it’s creation in 1962. The Halifax campus on Gottingen Street was envisaged as affordable housing for seniors, then grew into a complex mixture of apartments, assisted living, food and entertainment facilities for senior Nova Scotians. Today Northwood has additional campuses in Bedford, Dartmouth, Sackville, and more planned. We employ between 2400 and 3000 dedicated staff at any given time, and impact the lives of over 7000 Nova Scotia families daily.
The result of all this history, and many interconnected branches of the Northwood organizational tree, is a community with tremendous reach and responsibility. Northwood is a national reference for best practices in continuing care; a vital partner for the Nova Scotia provincial health authority; as well as a home for over a thousand individuals.
As such, the NWN has a responsibility to keep people well informed with accurate and timely information about continuing care, and issues pertaining to senior living. Our editorial stance and guiding principal will always align with Northwoods values:
We Respect Everyone
People Come First
Everyone Plays Part
Promote Social Justice
We Are All Accountable
We Can Always Do Better
With our new web-based platform, and soon to be expanded print editions, we plan to deliver on those values, and meet our valued community's high expectations.
Welcome to the new, revitialized Northwood News.
